First moho 11/2013, second 11/2014 current from 09/2019.
Getting the van ready to leave for Shrewsbury and I try out a little fan heater to take with us.

We are plugged into the mains, everything works okay.
Plug in the fan heater, the mains power within the van trips out (mains trip in house is okay).

Any ideas what needs to be reset and where it is?

It a Hymer with an electrobloc.

All suggestions welcome while I look in the instructions manual.

Thanks Martin

I assume the fan heater is 230V and you are plugging it into a three-pin socket? If so, it is unlikely to be a problem with the Elektrobloc. Have you used this particular fan-heater before without problem? If so, perhaps something inside it has failed. Have you tried it in the house? If OK, then the problem may be with the 230V inlet circuit breaker that is fitted in the Hymer.

Is everything alright if you don't use the fan heater?

try the electric heater in the motorhome without the fan heater

edit you have reset the tripped switch in the house? does the socket you plug into have an RCD? that might have gone as well

On our Exsis we have a main trip and two others as you have shown all in same box, have you another trip situated somewhere else?

can you plug the mains lead into somewhere known to be working

can you check there is mains power to the m/h end of the input lead (use a meter)

Your first post says that you are plugged into the mains and everything works OK. Then, when you plug in the fan heater, the Hymer cut-out trips. That suggests that the fault is in the fan heater. As I said in my first reply, have you tried the fan heater in the house and if so, does it work?

On your main beaker box is there a small button that also has to be reset.

Mine tripped out during a trip this year and that was what needed to be reset.

The van trips out you say...and the two breakers in your second photo are in the on position... so has the van an rcd that has tripped and is not shown in the photo...
You would be able to identify that as it would have a test button on it..
That would indicate an earth fault and should bring the house rcd out as well ..
If you have such a trip in van it would need resetting to restore power to the 230v system..
Andy..

If your plugged in at home presumably you have a blue plug to 13amp house plug connector, have you checked the fuse in the 13amp plug?

My 2005 didn't have an RCD (it has now!) so if it isn't adjacent to the breakers in your mains input box there almost certainly isn't one. Summarising the posts:

Leave the fan heater to one side - you can check it later in a house socket.
Check the house fuse and RCD supplying your hookup
Check the fuse in the plug adaptor used for hookup.
Check the hookup lead itself by substitution - you've done that.

Next check that the screws terminating the hookup adaptor cable in the blue socket are OK
If you have access to a meter check that you have mains at the above blue socket followed by -
- checking that mains appears at the van end of the hookup cable
Check that the screw terminations on the rear (inside the van) of the blue mains connection point are OK
Check that the connection of the incoming mains at the MH breaker box is sound and that there isn't a hidden RCD between the MH input connection and the MH breaker box.

You don't say what power the fan heater is. The MCB is the original Hymer 10amp one so a fan heater of more than 2000 watts will trip it.

Also you don't have an RCD, for your own safety it would be wise to fit one.

We've left the fan heater at home. Have now arrived at Shrewsbury but it's dark. We will put the electric issue to one side for the moment. We are not on hook up (yet).

Now the taps aren't working! They normally work on 12 v fine. Any suggestions? Other than hitting the gin?

Hello Dawn / Martin

we have had some daft electrical issues with ours. try switching off the electrobloc and counting to 5, turn back on all may be OK

but I have also had to remove the main fuse on ours mounted just alongside the eb, a big 50A thingie, just pulls out like the other blade fuses but much bigger, count to 5 again then stick back in

have a great time regardless. someone will sort it for you in daylight (y)
