How to use Google Earth Offine (1 Viewer)

I have been using Google Earth offline now for a couple of years, a post was made earlier referring to GE not being any good for POI files without an internet connection.

I knew mine was capable but I had forgotten how it was enabled, anyway after a bit of searching here it is :- http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2009/03/using_google_earth_offline.html

I think I'd call that a fudge rather than a solution.

You'd spend hours roaming around, say, France hoping to capture the images you might need in the future.

GE needs to offer an option "Select area and download images.....".
