Usually at the bottom of screen on the right, you will see a speaker symbol
Or go to control panel within windows and choose audio settings
Can get there via search facility if you not sure

Lots of ways to do it.
If you can't find the task bar, the you may have something like this that switches off the sound

On your keyboard, you probably have a 'function' key and a 'volume up' key - Fn, & speaker with up arrow (bottom right on this picture)

Press both at the same time and you'll probably get something like this on your screen, showing the volume increasing.

EDIT - THE PIC THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO HERE IS THE SMALL ONE AT THE BOTTOM OF MY POST!!!

Also you might have a 'sound on/off' key - mine is also F6 but they can vary - that you press along with the Fn key

On Win 8.1, rightclick the Soundbar icon in the taskbar, select Playback Devices, select Advanced tab, and UNCHECK the box that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". Hit Apply, then OK.

I was going to suggest getting one of those portable travel speakers as the sound from them will be far better & louder than any laptop speaker... but as it's only for "Corrie", I guess quality isn't important...
