I have a slow leak on the rear offside trailing tyre and will take it to a tyre repairer.
How should the rear be jacked up to remove the wheel?
I am concerned that the repairer may not know how to do this properly and I want to know so I can watch him and make sure its done correctly.

Use the jacking point only and not on the chassis rail elsewhere. The jacking point is normally the area painted black close the the suspension parts.

I can't remember what they are called but there is a gadget a bit like a levelling ramp with a 'dip' in it designed for tag axle trailers that you drive the 'good' wheel onto thus raising the 'bad' one of the ground for removal. Not sure how safe they are or how it affects the weight on the 'good' axle.

Just found them....

Had the bad luck to have 2 rear punctures on my tag in 5 years ownership.
Both times changed by me on the roadside just Jack under the axle you need but do remember to chock the front wheels first.

It may involve crawling underneath to have a look but you want to lift up the wheel only not the whole Moho so as FB says lift the axle or sometimes if your using a trolley jack you can get good purchase under the bottom of the shock absorber.(y)

Seems expensive, use of milenco ramps could do the same thing.

You know how and I know how but I have met a number of tyre fitters who didn't have a clue and needed guidance, always best to use the man who pays the bills.

Jacking points are easily identified if you look underneath

Tyre fitters local to us think that when the torque wrench "clicks", that's the signal to really start pulling on it

As long as he does it the way described above I wont have to say a word. However my fear is I end up with some numpty who has never seen a tag axle van before.

Unless I'm doing work on the suspension I never use the jacking point and just lift the wheel up enough to remove it. (y)

NEVER jack an AlKo setup under the axle itself, you can cause irreparable and expensive damage that way! There are cast steel jacking points fitted at the chassis just in front of each axle usually, jack under these.

Sorry Dave you're right my answer was a bit vague re reading it, those are the jacking points I've used both times.

Don't suppose you could answer my question on another thread about re gassing a roof mounted Dometic aircon unit, is it possible or is it a specialist job ie different to re gassing cab aircon.
Cheers(y)

Sorry FB, I don't deal with AC units at all, ask EddieVanbitz, they're dealers for Dometic Waeco or Waeco Dometic, whichever way round they prefer to be called this week ;-)

Thanks Dave. I will have a look so I know where they are and make sure the repairer uses the correct point.

As an aside, how did the fridge mods work in Morrocco? Feel free to answer via PM if you want rather than dilute this thread.

I have the same m/home as you
If you look between the two rear wheels you can see the black suspension bracket, on the bottom face is a round boss. This is where the useless fiat jack locates, I use a 5T hydraulic jack when I have to (3 punctures in 2 years)
