Hi.

Last year in March our son was born and he's Fab!

When we was away last year he slept in a thing called a 'sleepyhead' which kept him cocooned. When he got bigger we used a cot matress and small fold up bed guard.

During this time he was a small baby and not mobile......this year will be very different!!

Our MH has the dinette bed with a bench seat and the over cab bed.

Last year Mrs slept on dinette and bubba on the bench seat in his cocoon and me in over cab bed.

As bubba will be able to stand/walk and what-not, how will we contain him?

I thought he could go in over cab with the cargo net but Mrs is having none of the as she is concerned about the cargo net not containing him or him getting himself caught up in it. I think she might have a point so I think that is off the table.

So my question is what have others done to keep their small baby's safe. So that they cannot roll out of or push it over etc.
I don't think we have enough to floor space for a travel cot.

Any ideas welcome.

Would a travel cot fit where the table goes and you can look down from the over Cab bed?

how about putting the cushions from 1/2 the dinnette or the long bench in the loft at home and fix a cot onto the seat base in their place

Errr...whisky in his bottle? Proper belt around him and mattress to tie him up ?

Of course I'm kidding! I've minded more than 70 little ones within 27 years of childminding!!
So first, has he already tried to get out of his bed at home, climbing on the sides of it?. If not then Anthea's idea seems good to me. Get a folding cot and put it between the seats where the table usually is, assuming you have such a dinette. Otherwise only a high and rigid net will do. If he gets somehow trapped in the net, you ll hear him surely....unless you intend to go to the pub ,living him on his own!!??? Surely NOT... so ...no problem!

I too would look at travel cots. Some are smaller than others and my granddaughter slept in one when visiting me until she was over 2. They're light and fairly easy to put up and down.
Alternatively could you fit some sort of rail/ grill to the overhead bed ? If you do that a waterproof mattress cover is a good idea ( they're much better than they were years ago, don't rustle.) As they get more mobile their night nappies can move and leak, as this Grandma found out recently.

@Spawn_e_git I'm with your missus on this one !!

I'm too far removed from the baby scene to advise on what's currently available, but if the retaining net for the overcab is anything like the one fitted to my Bessacarr when I had it, I would be very reluctant to secure a baby with it.

My stepdaughters slept in our overcab and invariably, with wriggling around during the night, one of their arms or legs would end up dropping through one of the gaps and dangling down.

This wouldn't be good for a baby, who's head could possibly get through one of the gaps.

I think the idea is to restrain the tot ... not give him a trampoline! :D

Stitch some onto a baby group and have strips strategically placed on walls of MH.... :)

7 years campers before that
we had a travel cot and then a blow up bed that had sides for our grandson we then moved on to a camp bed but found him curled up by the side door one of the reasons we upsized last year

I think this is the best solution.
Aged 1-2 is probably the hardest to accommodate. Travel cots/ pop ups etc are ok, but once toddler is mobile there's always a chance of them tipping it over and possibly having a bigger fall.
We would make the dinette up each evening and place them in the corner with a few pillows as a barrier, even with night time movement and wriggles they never landed on the floor!

We used one of these. Was great. Easy to store. Easy to put up. Very light weight. We
Will be selling ours once i get around to it as youngest is almost 3 and so not needed now. Thats not why I am recommending it though.

There's something seriously wrong with some of you lot and quite disappointing to see so many suggestions of child restraint that are quite ruthless, so why not use something that is both safe and humane.....
