    Steady !!!!!
This is not a medical enquiry.

my 2009 3 litre Fiat diesel auto seems to be running fine
but the inside of the end of the exhaust pipe does seem to have a generous
covering of black soot............just a bit more than my other 2 diesel cars.

    Normal.......or what ?

check your air filter, mine gets sooty on short runs, I suppose you could give it a sweep ( think about it)

Mine doesn't (3l Merc) but my grand Vitara does but only since I've retired and doing shorter trips. I suppose it burns of on a longer trip as the exhaust gets quite hot.

Peugeot Boxer 2.5 tdi is sooty yet runs as sweet as a sewing machine. I'll clean the air filter of birds nests and debris just on the off chance.

It occasionally blows the odd puff of black smoke (just the one) when changing down under strain. I do the same myself must be an age thing.

    Normal - worry not.

    Enjoy the sunshine.
