I've been keeping a really keen eye on my trip computer since I bought the van back in July.

It seems we average between 27 mpg to 32 mpg depending on the journey and the way I drive.

If I average around 50 miles per hour I can get up to 32 mpg, but if I put my foot down or the journey is made up of lots of stopping and starting then I get far less, sometimes as little as 24 mpg.

My van is a Burstner Ixeo IT724 with a 2.3 litre engine.

Am I doing good or bad? How's everyone else doing?

    Sounds good to me.....:thumb:

We have a 2.2 HDi engine with 6 speed box and a large overcab bunk

On our recent holiday in France we averaged 23 mpg measured between fill ups (brim / brim) over 2500 miles, the trip computer stated 24.5mpg averaged for the same period.

That included easy cruising around 50 /60 mph where we got high twenties, almost 30, and on the way home from Dover to the NE, doing 70 to 80 mph most of the way for 350 miles where it was about 20 / 21 mpg.

I too have often heared that when the engine loosens up the mpg can and should improve.

Is this still the case with modern engines, and if so after what sort of mileage (000's) would you expect to see any improvement and by how much/

We run an American RV with a 7.4Ltr Chevy V8 engine
I get 10MPG on LPG equivalent to 20MPH petrol price
not bad for a real home from home :thumb:
i used to get 32mpg from A 2.3ltr Mercedes diesel non turbo but that saw such a slow slug with no real comforts as in the RV

the thing is if you have to watch the cost of fuel then you should not run a MH they are all gas guzzlers:Rofl1:

Same engine as you but I think ours is a bit heavier.

used to get average 26mpg in my 2.8ltr ducato.

you cant rely on onboard computers......the real way is distance over fuel used in real terms.
fill to the top, zero trip and drive until almost empty, then refill and calculate miles vs fuel used.

do this over 10 to 15 tanks and you'll get a true average.

I currently get 8mpg on gas and 10mpg on petrol

But if your speedo is over reading the mileometer will too... ie you have covered less miles/km than that indicated although you have an exact reading on fuel used.

Our speedo is over reading by a whopping 15% checked against two GPSs
