I am considering buying a 2004 Hymer with 78k on the clock. It is a 2.8 Ducato.

Do you think this too high a mileage? I don't know fiats at all.
What mechanical problems am I likely to get with the engine or gearbox in the next 50k miles say?

The van itself is in excellent condition.
I will of course ensure that the cambelt is changed.

Thanks

78k is just run in.
as long as its been serviced and had its cambelt changed,no reason these engine's should not reach 250000 miles, with regular serviceing.

Hi
Its a bit of a tricky question to answer with the engine etc being unknown I am on my second Fiat and have had no troubles with either having said that both were low mileage, but there are a lot of higher mileage Fiat showing no bad symptoms, 78000 doesn't seem ott. Lots, on and off, way back to VW splitty`s!
If you take a look at the motorhomes for sale on the German site mobile.de, you will find the vast majority have mileages way in excess of what is considered `average` in the UK.

It doesn`t seem to affect the prices they fetch.

They obviously like using their vans on the continent.

Aye-up...Mlieage no problem as my Hymer has 235000 on the clock and still not usung any oil between changes. Regular service is whats needed. Don't forget the Fiat 2.8 turbo diesel is made by the Citroen /Peugeot concern so parts no problem. I'd help with servicing but I've ,.... Lost-a-Spanner
