Just how many friends do you have
This started of as a bit of a drunken discussion with some "friends" at work but it got me thinking (bad I know)
How many friends do I have
I know a awfull lot of people world wide though works and some are friends but are they true friends so breaking it down I have
    Work friends
    Neghibors who are friends
    Family friends
    Motorhome fun friends
And so on the point is how many are true friends
I actually surprised my self with my results
    2
I married one and the other is a old Friend of 35 years who is a pain in the arse who will do anything for me and Elaine give me his (not lend) last quid he is there when anything goes wrong and that works the other way round as well the strange thing is I don't see him that often a about once a month

    Strange world
Before anyone does reply on this post just think first
When I asked Elaine the the same question she said about 10 now it's down to 3
And it was 2 hours later before she added me

Funny that - I had a similar conversation many, many years ago. It prompted me to start filling my life with 'genuine people' - one is now the other half! Strange thing is, had I not had that conversation and reorganised my circle of aquaintences - I probably wouldn't be with her.:thumb:

I reckon I am blessed with loads of "mates"...

...pub mates, magician mates, football mates, motorhoming mates and several of these would/have given me money etc when needed but...

    ...(not counting my better half)...

... l have only two really proper "friends", one male and one female. (and neither has any money...)

The people I know who claim to have loads of friends seem to spend half the time slagging half of them off.

I would go with 3, two are old school friends from primary school days. We keep in touch by phone and try to see each other a couple,of times a year. The other I met when my daughter trampolined with hers. We FB a lot and get together a few times a year. All 3 of them would help me out anytime and I would do the same for them. True friends do not always live nearby but would. Be there if you asked.

    I would say 4....

There's my Wife who is my best friend,
My 2 sons who are my best friends
then Tara my dog, who is my best friend.

I have lots of people I could call on in times of need and lots of people could call me in their time of need, but are they real friends?

I think friends come and go but a true friend you fall in love with.

Many many years ago, had conversation with by old man, sadly not around for a long time. He said, son when you get to retirement, you would have lots of acquaintances but if You could count friends that would take up all your fingers, you would be a very blessed and lucky man
Now that I reached retirement age, I have hundreds of acquaintances, but friends, well I am not blessed and unlucky, I do not have enough numbers to take up all my fingers.

My father told me when I was quite young that I had only two true friends, my parents.

He promised me that no matter what, they would look out for me, protect me, give me advice even if it wasnt what I wanted to hear, correct me when I was wrong and that they would help me make my own decisions.

Sadly my mother betrayed my trust when dad was dying and I have not been able to forgive her for that.

I have had what I would call a handful of true friends over the years, sadly most are dead but I was at their side to the last.

For me these days there are two definitions of friends

Funster friends - I have made many friends through fun. People I socialise with and enjoy their company and have fun with and people that I can ask favours of without wondering if I am offending just by asking and people I would help where I could too.

True Friends - Long term friendships that have been built over years where you can discuss between you anything without judgement, without falling out and without them walking away due to disapproval etc. Where you can ask each other for larger favours at awkward times and not be turned away.

A true friend is someone you can trust them with your life should your life depend on it.

A true friend is someone who wouldnt spread your darkest secret if they knew it.

A true friend doesnt hold a grudge

A true friend is someone you could say to "Ive won 20 million on the lottery" and they wouldnt ask for a penny.

A true friend is someone whom you could hand the whole 20 million to, ask them to look after it and know they wouldnt spend a penny. In fact they would probably go out of the way to ensure you got a profit out of it by putting it into eg a high interest account rather than under the mattress.

    Do you have different definitions?

Very similar I had a friend (back in the days of CB) stated exactly that ,loads of acquaintances but only a very few true friends, personally I would only need one hand and still have my thumb spare. The Wife being my number one true friend + 3 other mates who I could call on. Still I class myself as being generally lucky , a lot of my school chums and many others that have been close too are no longer here with us .

My biggest enemy is my mouth
It seems there is bit missing between
What's in my head and what comes out my mouth
If was a electrical system it would be a fuse
I can't help it I just have to say what I think

Most friendships these days seem to me to be quite shallow. Acquaintances would be a better way to describe them. I know people who meet new best friends every time they go on holiday.
