How many shows/rallies and meets do you attend in a year and why.
Do you include a meet as part of a longer trip.
If I were to host a rally in Ilfracombe what would tempt you to attend.:Cool:

Well Roger, the one thing that would really tempt me to attend would be having a bleeding MH to atten IN

Seriously, there are are a couple of people on a different forum who've invited me down to Devon and so a visit to a meet in Ilfracombe would interest me, could it be around the end of July or early August ??? or even latter in the year.

Oh and to answer your question - this year two (Carmarthen and Peterborough) mainly to look at MH's and accessories.

We are planning to include a few shows next year as part of a long tour of the UK & Scotland, so Ilfracombe could figure in our plans.
We have been to a few this season, mostly to see what is available to make things easier, but also to meet kindred spirits. I learned a lot this year from just asking other motorhomers & met some very friendly Funsters into the bargain.
Now that we know the crack for these events, we will be more prepared next year and have plentiful supplies of Barbeque fodder & alcoholic beverages

Maybe a bit of music - a BBQ - a beer or two - not enough for people to become paralytic- mostly a rally is an opportunity to meet and natter with a lot of like minded people - been on two this year had a great time - no great costs but good company and plenty of laughs

A site where is does not matter if your unit is 10ft long or 40ft long - whether its this years model or 20 years old - it does not matter if its pink - yellow - white or green Its the people in them that makes a rally

we have already booked for 3 rallies next year - will always try and take our time to go there and then move on - can always add more - when are you thinking of :thumb:

before we can confirm a meet, there is a small matter of planning and a matter of getting a passing RV to test the access to make sure it has enough clearance without a lot of messing about. So if any of you guys or gals with a large RV is heading in our general direction and could try it out for us do please let me know. Thanks. actual entrance is 19ft wide but the road is quite narrow just two lanes and little verge. Cheyne got in OK with his American travel trailer and a tag axle Hymer made it before the entrance was even widened. Still have a lot of fencing to sort out but am getting there.

Hi Roger,

After Shepton we are planning a few more next year, Camarthen, hopefully Stratford, Malvern and Shepton again, subject to timings etc and we're hoping with the likes of Camarthen to carry on as it were for a week (ish).
As to Ilfracombe, like most I suspect, timing would be the key though we do keep talking about getting 'down that way', and as to access, you should have seen last weekends access game

Winne fitted but her mirrors didn't, still made it in and out though and no damage, and I left the pubs plumbing as found, that tight I though we'd have it all off thier wall

Despite going to motorhome shows for decades, this summer was the first time I have joined in with Funsters' meets. I really, really enjoyed it and am looking forward to doing more next summer.

The date is the thing that influences me most and, as I love buying nonsense (this year it was loads of LED strip lighting!), if the meet is at a show with loads of dealers all the better.

Woolacombe beach is an international Surfing venue, only 3 miles down the road. You are welcome to strip in the field we are all free spirits, hee hee. Pub with excellent carvery within walking distance, fantastic dog walks in all directions, Arlington court home of the the "Chichester" family less than 5 miles away, Barnstaple a medieval town with pannier market, Summer market held in a field about a mile away, clay pigeon shooting within walking distance, as is horse riding and quad bikes. Sea fishing all around the coast, trout fishing on a couple of local lakes. What more could you ask for.

if it was during the summer school holidays yes would attempt to attend ilfracombe as its a long journey for us.

We attend 2 or three meets a year choosing the ones that are not too far to do over the weekend as distance with school etc and travelling out of london on a friday rush hour is no fun

Our main reason for attending is to meet up with the funsters. We always have a great time no matter what the weather. Everyone helps each other when there are problems

We really enjoy the company.

We go to none to busy doing it for real.

I have never been able to get my head around why other go to a soggy wet field pay enormous sums for the privilage and then go home happy. Still its just as well we are not all the same!

The last show we went to with the m/h was about five or six years ago when we were looking at RVs. We were packed in like sardines on muddy ground and with the constant drone of gennies all day and rowdy parties late into the night ... hmm I can think of nicer places to spend a w/e, so I doubt we will attend any more.

Meets.. you either love 'em or hate them..

'Done' a few over the years with different forums to see if we would enjoy them and it was nice to put faces to names, but they can be cliquy (sp) and it seems most of the socialising is done around drinking (which we don't do) so we have little interest in attending any now.

No disrespect to anyone who enjoys that sort of thing, but they are not for us.

I think your both very much right. It is about each being different. However doug, to say we spend a fortune could not be further from the truth. Some meets/shows are so cheap they work out cheaper than a campsite.
I can understand that socialising and drinking sort of go hand in hand, but many we meet on meets don't drink, we aren't all drunks you know,
For us its just cheap get aways with often fantastic company. We do do more than meets but nowadays when we travel or go somewhere we seem to have really enjoyable company attached to us (of course they might say the same). I would never of dreamed to of met so many like minded individuals that we can now call our friends.

As said, its about everybody being different, it would be no fun if we were all the same.

Fascinates me different people perception of a rally - I went on one earlier this month - 20 units about 48 people met - all were on hard standing fully service pitches for 5 days during that time there was a great deal of laughing and merriment - massive amounts of drinking went on - tea, coke, coffee, some water - some people went off to see the local sites - some relaxed in the sun one night we went to an organised carvery at a local restaurant which put on a special deal for us - cost the massive sum of £5 per head and was a very good meal. As most were driving we indulged in the dreaded coke with ice and lemon a very few had a pint of beer and some pushed out the boat with a lemonade. At the end of the rally we all had a get together with lashings of tea coffee and biscuits laced with lots of talking and laughter.
hence the reason why in my answer to this post was its not the units or the location its the people in them that make a rally.

Personally I like meeting people - there is generally a good exchange of ideas and thoughts - far more than can be aired on even forum as good as this one:thumb:

By the way don't do muddy fields - to much cleaning up afterward

Hi Jim you obviously have not been to a southern meet. I in particular refuse to pack people in like sardines and insist on the 6mtr rule. No noticeable Gennies, some people drink but not to excess and socialising takes place throughout the day. We have only attended meets attached to a show so it may well be different. Everybody had a darn good laugh and probably eat too much but what the heck. Hee hee

doing what for real a show or meet is about meeting people, meeting those who post or chat putting faces to names and having a laugh. In most cases the cost of the show is cheaper than normal site fees. If a simple meet then usually at CL rates. As to the weather well doing it for real whatever that means obviously does not include inclement weather. However the more enlightened amongst us are able to enjoy a show whatever the weather. Your loss is our gain in this case.

you are welcome to sit around doing nowt but soak up the sun or rain as the case may be, might even manage to find some old batteries for you to take away as well, hee hee
