Hotmail help please (1 Viewer)

Just opened my emails and gone to respond to one to JJ and clicked on Reply.

Everything was normal but as soon as I started typing all that came up were loads of straight lines (vertical) and no letters.... I have gone into the Help but it is pretty useless, they are telling me about everything but the problem I am having. Any suggestions please, as I need to send some e mails tomorrow.

That is an odd one.

I would do the age old fix of restarting the computer and see if that fixes it.

If not, as a work around whilst working out what the problem is, type the response into something you do know works (like Word or similar) and then cut and paste it in to see if that works.

Let us know if a reboot doesn't fix it and people can look for other solutions.

It is an odd one .. if still the same after a re-boot, couple of ideas ..

Number lock on ?

Stuck keys .. maybe the vertical line key ?

did you spill/splash liquid on the key board .. ?

Hi Joy

as the others have said perhaps the easiest thing to do first is to shut down and restart. That usually works. Howie's computer is not playing as he spilt some guinness on the keyboard the other night and now some of the letters dont work!

Hope you get it sorted out soon and Happy New Year when it comes in.

Hi Thank you all.. I have switched off computer and started it again several times but the problem persists. The number lock isn't on... I was wondering whether it is something to do with binary ... but there is no O only a vertical line.

I don't have a vertical line on my keyboard so can't be that.

The line is like the cursor line that appears and moves as you type. It moves but there are no letters just the line moving as you type.... weird.

I will go and try copy and paste and see what happens when I past it. Just thought.... I wonder if it is only JJ's email that does it .... no it can't be because I tried sending it as a NEW message and not a reply and it still did it.

Have you inadvertently set the text colour to the same as the background in the e-mail settings? I've known that happen before.

IT'S WORKING!!!!!! Didn't do anything just did a test type email to JJ and it worked!!!!!! Don't ya just hate it when that happens....:Blush::Blush:

Happens too often with computers. Fickle things.

Sorry to drag this up again, but it has happened AGAIN... No writing just vertical cursor lines ... is there a button that makes writing invisible or do I read too many spy stories... I had an abundance of emails from Funsters yesterday, so please, IF I havn't replied then it's because of this problem...:Sad: Getting cheesed off with it now and don't fancy changing my bloomin' address again .. only just got used to this one.

Dumped it ages ago Joy and went onto gmail or googlemail. Never had a problem since. :thumb:
BTW I get very little spam.

Hi Joy,
agree with Ken, Gmail is great , I've been using it for years and it's only gotten better .. :thumb:

I know it's pain having to change but you can set GMail up to retrieve mail from other addresses, so you don't have to keep checking your old Hotmail addy ..
