Well thanks to the info from Pappajohn I refused to be beat by the idiots at Shrewsbury DVLA so took a chill pill and went back today.

I bit my lip and politely asked for a supervisor or at least someone that knew what they were doing.

Within ten seconds of conversation ( after being queued up for one and a half hours ) with the lady supervisor she said no problem sir you will require a rebate and it is just a rubber stamping excercise.

Five minutes later walked out with a new tax disc showing PHG class

Why oh why is every dealing with a government department such a difficult procedure unless you are persistant.

Now, to be on the safe side, i would ring my insurers and then at least they know its been changed..

it shouldn't be a problem though and the premium shouldn't change.

hi good on you. they soon learn if you always ask for a manager etc .things should be easy .dont why they make it so difficult .had a similar problem in i think it was peterbourgh .my mate was having probs . i went with him stood my ground and it all got sorted in twenty minutes . i love authority . like a red rag to a bull. but good on you from now on you know the way.

Thanks ever so much , we are insured with caravan guard so gave them a call and as you say an instant answer no problem at all and everything stays the same.

What a difference it is dealing with a private company

Yes good point! I checked with safeguard prior to going from 3300 to 3700 as I could easily have just gone to 3500. No problem with insurance just a note on the file.

No problem with the included AA breakdown recovery either , their only concern being the number of berths rather than weight due to the possible expense of temp accommodation

Glad to see you got a result, Alan, but it isn't just public sector where persistence is needed. I've experienced it with banks, phone companies and power companies, plus,others, in recent months.

It seems too many organisations fail to provide adequate training and have incomplete procedures/scripts for lower level staff to follow.
