HMRC phone scam (1 Viewer)

Just had a phone call and message left on our house phone (we never answer it , any body who wants us leaves a message so we can call them back )
Anyway, message says it's from the HMRC, saying that they have a case file on us and we are going to be prosecuted.....
Ring this number to speak to your case manager.....
Two things led me to think scam right away.
1, never mentioned my name...
2, call was at 9.05 am on a bank holiday Monday...
There having a laugh aren't they.
You can't even get hold of em before 10am on a normal working day...
Deleted message and emailed HMRC website.
They'll have to get up earlier in a morning to catch Mr B

Yep had that one the other day.

SWMBO called me and said about message.
I told her it was a scam as HMRC operate out of Scotland and it was a Manchester code

Plus they always write to you first

That one has been around for years, surprising how many Americans HMRC employ in their call centres.

I had a call from Nigeria yesterday , they left a message on the answering phone and i could hear them a bit muffled to work out what they were selling ,i was wary that it may be one of those calls that can rack up your phone bill just for answering ,they attempted to call 3 times

I think I would have a serious talk with my provider if they attempted to invoice that

i was caught once before my a 0900 number and i am very wary of it , if i dont know the person calling and its an overseas number i dont take the call
