I am sure there must be someone who has but the vast majority react with horror at the very thought. The pitfalls are tremendous.

Suspect your insurance would not allow it.

No way. It would defeat the object of having one.
I have however had mad thoughts of buying another just for that purpose but in reality it would mean not being able to use the existing one when it suits us as we would need to be booking in or out the hire vehicle.

When your on a site have a look round and check for hire vehicles. You won't need to watch for long and seeing how they get treated will soon put you right of the idea.

Many people don't respect their own things let alone somethings that's not theirs.

On a bit different tack, it's remarkable how many vans are hire vehicles in France , you look round and see people scratching their heads on various things like filling with water and stuff and then on closer inspection you can see a hire firms decal on it.

I asked the question because whilst having my car mot'ed the guy doing it who is a mate of mine asked me if I had considered hiring my motorhome out.He had rented one himself at considerable expense and seeing as apart from my allocated holidays I can only use it once a month it was a consideration though appreciate it would require further looking into especially insurance
    Thanks for all replies Mark

When I was in Scotland recently I met several people who were renting their Motor-Homes from proper Businesses. The first one had done the Applecross run in a 7+ metre van with quite a few scratches down the side, telling me to give it a go in mine, "it's a bit tight in places but we got through", he said. He obviously couldn't give a dam about the damage he'd done to the van.

The second lot I met at a popular Wild-Camping stop who came over for advice on how they could get power to the numerous outlets around the van. They couldn't get the telly going and they wanted to charge their phones etc. I suggested that it could only be either a switch they haven't discovered or a fuse blown.

They came back after checking all the fuses and asked if I'd have a look. When I went over all became clear, he wasn't asking about the 12volt outlets he wanted power from the 230V ring, they'd even brought their electric kettle from home. They walk among us folks.

its a good business if you can get the marketing right £800to 1200 a week on a lay out of 40 k is a good return if you can fill enough weeks and dont get to much damage even damage is covered by the deposit/insurance

My motorhome is an 04 registration but only has 35,000 miles on it with full history,I paid probably just below market for it so rental income could mean it owes me nothing after 12 months and seeing as suspect my job may only last another 5 years a different source of income would be advantageous.

Do a search on here. It's usually put down as a BIG NO NO.

Someone must make money out of it else there'd be none to rent , but when you rent your only one out , would you like to go in it again, probably not if it was me:(
