Hi there. We're just about to buy our first motorhome (used). Won't be buying until December so just sussing out the market at present. Seen lots of apparent bargains in our price bracket and have spent hours (read days!) looking round motorhomes. Have gradually refined our opinions as to which layout we require so now it's just a question of waiting and seeing what's around in December. It's exciting but daunting at the same time as there are so many more things to watch out for than with a caravan (we used to have one many moons ago). We shall probably be buying from one of the local dealers rather than private and will take a friend along with us on the test drive who used to be a mechanic. Looking forward to the Fun.

December sounds a good time to buy. Early Christmas present too!

Damp seems to be the main thing to look out for in used MHs. Your mechanic friend I am sure will advise you on the mechanicky bits but worth asking the dealer when a MH was last checked for damp and what the readings were. Most anything else can be replaced if it fails but if the structure is rotten (many have wood in them) then repair can be so expensive some dealers won't volunteer to sort it unless you take them to court.
