Has he looked to see if there are any fuses where his leisure battery is connected. Definitely sounds like a main fuse blown.

When you say control panel, can you be more specific? A control panel on a 10 year old van can mean many things.

Is it just the lights that aren't working? What about the fridge / heater / cooker ignitor / water pump?

Very difficult to diagnose electrical problems without being there :)

Do you have a 12v multimeter?

    Autotrail handbook

The autotrail hand books are available back to 2004.

I don't think they are model specific but it might help.

There is quite a large section on electrics but no wiring diagrams.

Not sure if this helps but my 12v stopped once. The panel had locked up. The manual told me to remove control panel and remove connections for a minute or so and it would reset, and voila, it did!

Mine is a Swift Kontiki and panel is above habitation door. The one in question may be elsewhere but anything is worth a try?

As suggested by others, more details of actual fault and vehicle would help.

    Good luck

There should be a main fuse, on its own normally NEAR the leisure battery but NOT in the battery box.

It may be beneath the seat, on the outside of the battery box, near the control panel, in cupboard - but it will be near the battery!

No 12 V! This happened to us while wild camping at Essaouira! We managed to find a garage and the auto-technician looked at the control panel etc while we sat in the van. Then he went for a walk and returned a few minutes later with a new solenoid which he replaced... all in for 20 euros! No problems since!
