Hi all we have a chieftain with two lesure batteries and a battery mate connected to engine battery a 140 solar panel on the roof the leisure batteries are two years old on a sunny day there is about 2.5 a going in that's ok and builds the leisure bats to 13.8 fine but after a couple of hours it's down to about 12.6 without anything switched on do I need a couple of new batteries any advice please

12.6/7v when not chargeing your batteries are charged! The higher reading is because your batteries are chargeing!

Yep, thats correct. alternators, gennies, solar etc all charge at around 14.2v, but after a few minutes after switching off, the batteries should settle to about 12.6 ish. 12.8 would be good, below 12.4v would be bad.

My 110 amp Banner is coming up 5 years old. Never had one last that long and I was going to change it based upon age. But it still holds a charge no problems and I had everything going in the van (heating, lights, DVD player) the other day for hours and it still was just over the 12v by the end of the day.

Useful chart .. check the battery voltage with NO LOAD and at least 30 mins after charging..

and try never to discharge below 50% .. 12.06 v .. as it will seriously shorten the life of the battery..
