If walking in the Black Forest, watch out for ticks. A few years ago some German acquaintances of ours warned us that the area is notorious for ticks and many carry infection (Lyme's Disease). After the recent mild winter and wet summer, I should imagine ticks will be plentiful so don't walk in shorts in undergrowth and keep an eye on bare arms for the little bu**ers - they are very small when first they attach to you.

Technical Museum in Speyer, on the Rhine. If you like that kind of thing, it is an excellent example.

There is a campsite in the museum grounds, you can stay overnight. Also the town centre is near, and is worth a visit.

We always enjoy Lake Titisee and use the motorhome parking near the Therme (dash-cam video of our route).

There is also a good stellplatz further south at Bad Bellingen alongside the Therme. If you stay for 2+ nights you'll also receive the Konus guest card which provides free transport throughout the Black Forest region and there is a handy train station just a short walk from the Stellplatz.

Hope you have a great time choose where-ever you go,

Cheers

Andy

The Speyer museum is one not to be missed. The stellplatz is next door about €15 per night. You need the whole opening time to see it all.

Not just a problem in Germany though. Over the last few years I have picked up two ticks in the UK, one on Exmoor near Minehead and one in Scotland near Poolewe. One just has to be vigilant if walking in rough country and remove them as quickly as possible using a 'tick-twister' ideally. If in any doubt, or if one has been attached for a while, visit a GP for antibiotics.

Hi we just turned up at Speyer as it was listed in our book as a stellplatz. It might now be a campsite. It was a 72 hour max stay. May have all changed.

You could visit the worlds largest cuckoo clock near triberg. Some nice waterfalls near there too. Lake titisee is nice. . Freiburg is nice (though I'm biased used to work near there )

Strasbourg and colmar on the way are lovely
