Hi all, I need some advice re,a friends batteries.
They were down at the storage yard last week and discovered they had left a 12 volt light on for the last 3 months.
Of course the batteries are completly flat, they told me the batteries were new last summer.
Is there a posibility of recovering them or are they caput now.
I had a phone call from them today and they have had them on charge for a week at home, that is to say off the MH,what do you recon.

Hi

Some battery shops and repair garages now have equipment that can recover batteries or at least some batteries from this state.
No promises but worth asking the question of your local outlets

Cheers Alan

personally i dont think a regular charger has much chance but a good multi stage charger MAY recover them but 3 months is a long time...

stage 1 will push around 15v into it then reduce to bulk at around 14v

then float at 13.6v

stage 1 may break up the sulphation on the plates and allow proper charging again.

Hi John, I have a small Optimate 3 charger that I used to use on my classic cars.
Do you think that would do the job?
I think that it would take about a week to charge each battery though.

might do it dave....its the volts more than the amps to recover a battery.

if it chucks out at least 14.4 volts its worth a try.
