looking for Hymer S660

Hi there.. My family and I are currently saving for an old Hymer so I though it would best to join up here and take the opportunity to ask the experienced 'motorhomers' out there questions as they pop up and read and read and read post here. We are not going to be full timing in it, mainly short stays during school holidays ect. There is myself, hubby and two younger teenage girls so the smaller old timer hymers have really won us over like B534 and S550. We like the rear U shape layout. At the moment we are considering storage capabilities. Things like, how much can you fit into the boot and is there a locker on these ones for skis/surfboards. Engine capabilities is another pondering thought. Does the mercedes 2.9 chew the fuel as opposed to the 2.5TD. Things like that at the moment. I know there are longer hymers too but we plan on taking it into cites and towns too so like the convenience of a smaller vehicle. Anyway..we're dreaming and saving and doing as much research now as we can. :)

Welcome Debz. The Merc engine is a good motor, not sure about a 2.5TD, I know they did a 2.7TD. Reckon on mid 20mpg.

Thank you all!! I'd like to mention too that even though a longer vehicle isn't practical to take into cities, I think the longer Hymers are good too and at a good price I wouldn't say no. S660 or B664.

Thanks everyone..! Yeah I really like the late 80's early 90's. Especially the Mercs. I like the early 80's too but they have a dodgy dunny and might stink the place out a bit?? I'm not sure how easy that would be to change. I love the upholstery of the early 80's. I think maybe the engine in the late 80's is bigger tho. I wonder if a Merc 2.9L would waste the same as the french 2.5TD? Finding one in Portugal is also another mission and importing one is an option but also a major mission.

Ms Debz0773... If by "dodgy dunny" you are referring to the EXCELLENT Agua Magic loo with a holding tank (as I have in my Hymer), let me assure you, I find this far, far superior to these modern, toy, cassettes thingies which I watch being lugged off everyday to some stinking dumping spot by the masses.

Every six to 8 weeks (ish) I position my beautiful Hymer over a suitable disposal manhole, pull the slide, 2 minutes later... job done.

However, seeing there will be several more folk using your facilities, maybe you will have to empty slighty more freqently...
