I'm a newbie
Hi, I am new to the world of camper vans.

A bit about myself.

51 year old bachelor with a grown up son.
One eye on retirement in 10 - 15 years.

First question is about the base vehicle.
I am drawn to the L3 H4 Transit Minibus as it is big, tall and has all round windows.
It would allow me to have bed/shower/toilet,kitchen etc as I want to be somewhat stealthy and self contained for the most part.
Presumably if I make this conversion in the next few years, it wont be viable by the time I retire?
How long are these vehicles expected to last?

Well met to you all.

Keith

If you intend re-registering as a motorhome you have your work cut out.
Not only are there certain requirements for the inside, the outside now has to resemble a motorhome.....and all round glass wont cut the mustard.
Of course, northern ireland may have different requirements to the mainland.

Hi and welcome Keith ... for what it's worth IMHO the transit isn't the best/easiest van to convert... I've done two of them and their body lines are not ideal compared to the more rectungular fiat type bodies..
The first one was a mini bus , mk3, and again just a bit too much glass for my liking .. limiting what can be done without a load more work.. and I've still got the mk7 camper..
That mini bus I had for 16 years in spite of transits reputation for rusting ... so if you look after them they can last a while...
What part are you from... I'll be over in a few days again lol...
Andy..

Hi Andy, I am a Belfast boy. Lived for a short time in West Jesmond, across the river from you.
That was back in 1986 though, worked for Presto's for my sins and if memory serves I spent some time in the SS store!

Completely open to suggestions right now on what to get as a base vehicle.
Going to be a year I imagine until I will get one.

This the sort of fiat you are suggesting?
actually looks a bit like you Chausson 620.

Thanks to all for the welcome.

Keith

It's a small world... I've been over here since 1970.. but visit Castlerock regularly. ..
