 Living here in France since 04. Have recently got hold of a nice old Renault Pilote (1985!) 2 berth and very good nick! Its a life-changer and we are hoping to take it down to Spain for a few weeks this winter as our French winters are not as warm as you may think!

Hello and welcome from the Dordogne!
And I know exactly what you mean by French winters--how can a garden be 36C in summer and minus 15 a few months later???
I am also looking forward to a warmer winter in Spain and Portugal. Haven't picked up my m/home yet (s l o w dealer...) but looking forward to getting going.

We don't think they are that's why our advanced party is right now taking over Zahora, Trafalgar revisited.

Changing our motorhome...!

Hello everyone

Have now sold the old Renault and getting a Citroen based 1990 Hymer B544 on Christmas Eve!http://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

Its a LHD but has been in the UK for 10 years... we plan to import it to France.

Does anyone know if the headlights are adjustable from RHD to LHD. If not, does anyone know the best source of LHD headlights please? Are they supplied by Citroen or Hymer?

Many thanks in advance
Val

Hi Val. Re.:the headlights for your Hymer - go onto ebay.de (german ebay) - you will find new headlights on there for about 29euros, as opposed to ÂŁ89+ on ebay.uk...

On a van of that age, even though its been in the UK for 10 years there's a good chance its still on LHD headlights. Many of the imports just have beambenders.

That's right, our Dethleffs had beam-benders on when in the UK. Not a mot problem.

AS I mentioned above, if you DO need new headlights go on ebay.de ...
Have a look at item 230860571112 (netparts_24) and item 221018642237 (kfzscheinwerfer) ... under 25euros each, brand new. :thumb:

lovin it!!

Happy Christmas to you all - just braved twisty unfamiliar roads in driving rain to collect the Hymer here in soggy Somerset! Very pleased with it... got 2 new tyres for it so it will make the journey back to France on Thursday! Lovely to drive (despite weird column change which took some getting used to, and the fact that it's wider than our old Pilote). However it made some loud squealing noises on some gear changes, and not just because of my driving... OH thinks the clutch may need doing.... http://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/images/smilies/rollEyes.gif

Anyhow, we are very pleased overall - have a lovely time in the festive season everyone! http://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/images/smilies/bigGrin.gif

why not pop into soggy Devon and say hi, coffee is on and beer in the fridge, Tis a nice van and once the clutch has been sorted (don't forget the cambelt at the same time) you will be well sorted. Enjoy your trip back whatever.

Hello
Thanks for that - we won't have time on this trip but thanks very much anyway for the kind offer and your advice - the cambelt was done in 2008 or 09 but as much of the cost is labour, it may be worth doing (even though its only done about 20k miles since!)

Hi,
Many thanks for that - walked off the turkey and had a further investigation of the Hymer - its got beam benders so no need for headlight changing - what a bonus!

However we have no idea how to use the gas system on board, and the advertised hookup cable isn't in any of the cubbyholes! Looks like our plan for a camping stop is in jeopardy on the way home. Does anyone know where would be open on Thursday between Somerset and Folkestone to pick one up please with European plugs (A303 then M3/M25/M20)??

Happy Christmas to all!

p.s. ....and Wildman, you're more than welcome to see us in France anytime you're over!
