Heading towards Denmark we could explore these cities. Did anyone visit and can recommend them?

Have you got your Umwelt sticker. I'm not sure whether the cities you want to visit will require a low emissions sticker but its definitely worth getting one. Do NOT buy from internet. As you drive into Germany, go to a MOT type garage and have your registration document with you and its a 5 minute process and costs around €5 (internet £30 +) and its on for life. Apparently most Honda dealers in Germany supply but I think most garages that do MOT's do too.
Type in Umwelt sticker into Google and you'll get all the information.

Not totally true - I've used this site for both of our cars and the motorhome

€6 inc. postage which is a good deal

Hamburg did not used to be in the Umweltplakette zone, and I do t think Kiel or Lubeck are either. You should visit Lubeck. Really nice town and awesome marzipan. Hamburg has a good maritime museum and Kiel is quite nice, too.....

We visited both place without the sticker - we only had an issue when looking for a carpark in Bremen (which is a very pretty and worth visiting) and the restrictions started about 200m from the city / town centre.

Hamburg - we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, parked in a stellplatz and spent the night. Following day (Sunday) we went to the fish market (touristy but fun) and then MinatureWonderland (great fun if you like model trains, towns etc.) where I could have spent much more than the 3 hours we spent there (kids struggled after 2 hours) and then walked around some more of the city. Back to stellplatz and left Hamburg after a meal (hamburgers). We didn't go to the city centre but the weather was grim and we had had enough. We went on to the Kiel canal which was fun to park next to and watch the container ships pass by. We didn't go to Kiel itself. Then up to Legoland and down to Rostock.

if you decide to go to Kiel, watch out for Kiele Woche held every year last week in June. We are heading there specifically for it but booked site in January and could only get 11 km away. Nearest one to Kiel booked until January 2019 when I tried.

It is a big sailing festival with music and so on in the town. Attracts thousands of visitors so we expect it to be super busy. Literally Kiel Week. Hoping to see lots of tall ships.

I seem to recall there was a submarine you could visit at Kiel and the Kiel canal was the site of an allied disaster in WW2. I'm not sure what there is on the ground in terms of a memorial but Google will know. I've been to a few pubs in Hamburg, those with live music are superb but the Reeperbahn isn't what it used to be apparently. :)
