Ok please don't shout at my vanity. Very new to motorhoming. Guy in showroom said hairdryers no problem in MH. Hubby thinks the guy doesn't realise I mean my wonderful 2000w machine and instead thinks I mean travel dryer. I don't expect to use often but want to know if I can use a normal dryer if I get hook up on your average site in uk. I know EHU's vary. Also straighteners???? Hubby says they r a no! Surely not. They are my life saver!
    Any thoughts or experience?

you can use both on a british EHU :thumb:no problem:thumb:but might trip the ehu if you have the hairdryer, kettle, fridge, and water heater all running at the same time

the rating of the supply and that of the straighteners/hair dryer must be taken into account. hookups are generally 6 amp, typical staighteners are 1500W so around 6 and a half amps (at 230V), and would trip the the supply. so the real answer is yes they can be used in isolation if the rating is low enough.

In an emergency we use a Nicky Clarke 500 watt Classic blow dry styler run through a 500 watt inverter. It seems to keep my hair under control and at £11.97 from amazon its a bargain. Her indoors tells me it works OK.

Straightners 150W to 350W Fine on all EHU
Hair Dryers 500w to 2000w You are best with a lower wattage drier otherwise you will have to turn most the electrics off in the van to use them.

My daughter uses her GHDs on our 500w pure sinewave inverter.

is that a typo Roger... ?

most UK sites are 16A with a few at 10A

In France many are also 16A, even on Aires, but you can get 10A and 6A

In Spain most sites give you a choice of 6, 10 and 15 .. and charge accordingly.. some of the big sites are now metered and charges are steep.. it's cheaper using LPG

In Spain, it is not uncommon to have 4 amp.

Eddi has Gas powered straighteners that work very well. As for dryer, she doesnt bother when we are in the van except on EHU.

For a quick pick up with your hair if you don't want to wash it try the dry powder shampoo it works really well and puts you for a couple of extra days. (especially wild camping) but I use my hair dryer from home in the van no trouble, not sure if the extra surge of electricity is any good for the electroblock though. Perhaps one of the gentlemen on hear can clarify that point.
