We are moving to Worle next week, and so, will be making same enquiries-I know of Davan's in Worle ,but they are big and charge £190 for hab check
I'm used to paying around £150 to an independent workshop who do anything I need doing. That includes mechanical,MOT,tyres plus all specialist motorhome stuff.
That's the sort of place I'll be looking for when we move.

Do a search for NCC. national caravan council..
They have a list of approved engineers and there will be some mobile ones listed.
I paid £90 this year and £120 last year.... Cheaper than a dealer, more convenient as they come to you. We had an issue with our van and the Autotrail factory accepted the report, no problem...

First, check what you warranty terms are, some manufacturers insist that you MUST use one of their own make-specific dealers' workshops. Then if you DO have to use a make-specific dealer you need to contact them to see if they will do the habitation on your van if you didn't buy it from them - they do NOT HAVE TO and even if they do they are unlikely to do any warranty work as they get paid less for this than normal work. They may also make it 'awkward' for you to go to them as they wish to look after their own 'customers' first, so the date you are offered could be less than ideal, eg a long time hence! Your supplying dealer, however, would normally do warranty work as they build a 'cost' for this into the purchase price.

If you are NOT restricted to a make-specific dealers' workshop but still have to have a habitation check/damp check to meet the terms of a warranty then an NCC approved one would be best. There are quite a lot of these around, both with their own premises and mobiles ones too, I believe one also comes to the MH shows to do them whilst you're in the area.

I speak from experience about the above! We used to have a Chausson and bought it 250 miles away in Somerset (from Highbridge who were very good indeed), although we had authorised Chausson dealers closer to us, as we didn't buy from them they weren't really interested, after some persuasion they would do the habitation but we had to wait quite a while to be 'fitted in' and they would not under any circumstances carry out warranty work which, as we had some things which needed sorting out, wasn't any use to us. Fortunately there was an independent chap with his own garage who used to work for RDH before they closed down, and had kept his servicing authorisation up to date with Chausson so he was authorised to do the habitation and warranty work, therefore we were able to use him.

Been quoted £200 + Vat - £240

A weeks work ?? I don't think so !

Is there a decent mobile NCC engineer in Scotland or near the borders ?

When I lived in windermere I used a company called Davan, on the A 65 towards Skipton. They were £120 last year.
