I have recently moved back to UK, bringing my MH with me. The caravan centre next to where I store my MH has a special offer for a hab check of £119+vat. Is this a good deal or should I look further afield?

No, that doesn't look unreasonable.

Mind you I was reading a rant about just how much of a rip-off it can be to do next to nothing!

I'm of the view that's a fair price. However, I would strongly advise you get them to confirm it will be done in accordance with the standard set by the NCC and in particular includes a damp check. If neither of these requirements are met your check wont be worth the paper it's written on.

We pay £120 (£100 + VAT) at a MCEA member of the AWS for a full NCC check, including damp. Servicing (other than minor) of gas appliances isn't included but they are checked and any service recommendations notified.

Don just seek assurance they will do it to the NCC standard, as they will just say of course we will.
They are either an NCC Approved Work Shop or not. If so they will have documentation to prove it. They will also be on the NCC website with a a star rating.

I agree with @PhilandMena

Make sure you are given a copy of the check list carried our, especially the damp check.

If the motorhome is still covered by "water ingress" warranty that is essential.

Just to clarify it's not the NCC approval you need, they need to be a member of the Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS) which the NCC is part of with the Caravan Club and Camping & Caravanning Club, in addition the manufacturer has to be a 'supporter' of the scheme - just having it done by an AWS workshop won't matter if the manufacturer doesn't recognise them.

Please read up about it before deciding who to use:
