German Shepherd fosters pygmy goat
Snowy, a local goat and favourite with zoo-goers in Polbeth in West Lothian, tragically died while giving birth. However, an unlikely foster mother quickly took in the pygmy goat kid.
Bonnie, a four-year-old German Shepherd, had her mothering instincts awakened by the tiny abandoned kid and has been caring for the orphan since his mother left.
Brian and Shirley Curran, who own and operate Five Sisters Zoo, were shocked by their dog's devotion to the new arrival.
“After the tragedies of the birth we moved the baby goat into our house and Bonnie has never left his side since,” said Brian.
“I’ve raised goats for as many years as I care to remember and I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s very touching,” Brian continued.
Bonnie has even forgone her morning walks in order to continue looking after the little goat who’s presently nameless.
