Does anyone have experience of using google maps as their main navigation program. If so,how much data will it use per,say 100 miles.I know you can now download maps for off line use now but I think you only have a short period before it expires.

Can you be sure of getting a data link often and quick enough would be my thought.

So I use Copilot Live with everything stored off line. And surely in the long run much cheaper to run.

I've used the Waze app on & off - especially when I want live traffic monitoring - and it rarely uses more than 10mb.

@hilldweller data link & download has never been an issue - presumably it 'knows' your route and downloads the relevant mapping well in advance...

What has been an issue is that the phone can quite easily lose the GPS signal, not so bad when trucking along a motorway but infuriating when it happens just as you are approaching a series of junctions.

It is for this reason, not data usage, I don't rely on my phone as a SatNav.
