I nearly wept to hear that one of my favourite buildings, Glasgow School of Art, went up in flames yesterday. Charles Rennie Mackintosh's wonderful and unique creation was designed completely by him, even including tiny details like locks, hinges etc. The library was incredibly beautiful, and the top floor housed a small museum of his furniture and other works. It's a terrible loss - Hopefully it can be restored....

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
A terrible disaster to such an iconic old building.

However, fortunately 75% of the nude art sitters were saved, suffering only superficial hair loss. :Eeek:

Glasgow's Chief Fire Officer, Dougall McStandpipe, stated "The fire started in the basement area, where two of the Art School Porters were watching a red-hot porn movie".

Repairs are estimated as costing up to at least one Picasso and a Rembrandt.

Yes, I nearly wept too but looks like they've managed to save most of it, thank goodness!

We were hoping to visit this when we go to Glasgow at the end of July for the Commonwealth games. I don't expect we were the only ones
