We have only just heard about this and about to enter cologne .
We are 3.9 tonnes
Should we just not drive thru the city or can we get a sticker from anywhere easily ?
We were planning to park right in the city for a day. Apologies if this is already covered in a thread but haven't been able to find it

You can get one at most dealers or at a TÜV centre (bit like a MOT testing station). You need your V5 registration document.
Note that to enter the umvelte zone in Cologne, you need to be Euro 4 or better. In fact, almost all German zones now require a green sticker (plakette) which means Euro 4 or better. If perchance, your motorhome is Euro 3 or worse, then it is not really worth bothering to get a plakette - just stay out of the zones.

Is yours a late registered version of the series with twin round headlamps and the Fiat JTD 2.8 litre engine (production finished in 2005), or the newer series with tear-shaped headlamps and a 2.3 litre multi-jet engine?
If the former, it is most likely a Euro 3, if the latter it should be a Euro 4.

Thanks @Jean-luc
We have round shaped headlights but don't know the engine power.
If we are indeed a 3 does that mean we can't go in inner cities?
Thanks for your help

I have just searched for a motorhome like yours and found one listed as 2006 and sold by Becks. It was a 2000-2005 series model registered in 2006 with the 2.8JTD engine, so Euro 3 compliant not Euro 4. If that is yours, then I think you will have to avoid the umvelt zone.

p.s. you might find this website useful - it contains details of all the LE Zones across Europe. You will see that there are few, if any, zones in Germany that now allow in anything other than a green sticker which means Euro 4,5,6. In practice, this is not a problem, just keep out of the city centres and if necessary, use public transport to get in.

Hi the seller of our vehicle says we are a green sticker and there is one somewhere on the van. Is there no need for us to find a TUV place now?

If you have one it has to be displayed in the windscreen

So true. I didn't notice the second bank of cylinders at first glance. The crankshaft must be a work of art and I bet it doesn't do many papal visits to the gallon.

Finally got it sorted and am the proud bearer of a green sticker!
Went to a TUV centre who said their computer didn't have enough info from our P5 form and sent us off to a Fiat dealer ! Took half a day but the fiat dealer gave us the sticker without charging so well chuffed
Thanks everyone for your help.

Glad you got it sorted out. I think some dealers may be quite relaxed where visitors are concerned. In 2010 I went to aTUV centre in Baden Wurtenburg with my 2003 Sprinter-based Hymer. It has a 2.7 CDI engine that is rated as Euro 3. After much sucking of Teutonic teeth, the chap declared it a Red sticker i.e. Euro 1 or 2! I declined to purchase and went on my way. A few days later, I asked a man at Hymer in Bad Waldsee what to do. He sent me to a Merc dealer down the road who explained that whilst it was technically a Euro 3 vehicle when it left their factory as a 3.5 tonne chassis, because Hymer had rated it at 3.8 tonnes, it was now reclassified as a red sticker. Then he smiled and said 'no one is going to check a British motorhome in so much detail' and handed me a yellow Euro 3 sticker. At the time that was a good result and the sticker is still on the windscreen, but it's not a lot of use anymore as nearly all zones require a green sticker.

Glad the Fiat dealer sorted you out. For anyone else, if your van is new enough it doesn't matter if it's Euro 3 or 4 - if your van is registered after 1st Jan 2006 you'll get a Green Umweltplakette.

That's how I got one last year for my 2006 Euro 3 2.8JTD !:)

You should be classed as a "PKW" (a car basically - my van was, even though it's plated at 4000kg), if your German is up to it this page tells you that registered after 1/1/06 means you get the magic green sticker:-
