Hopefully, this question won't be as stupid as it sounds: ::bigsmile:

What is the measured voltage of the 12V output on a generator?
Has anyone actually taken a reading from theirs?

At 12.8v it will charge a battery, though at a low rate unless it is very flat. It won't fully charge it as a multistage charger would though. It would be better if it could be around 13.5v

And it gets worse, the specs I've noticed for "decent" gennies, the 12V out always seem to be 100W or 8A which is a fraction of the gennie power. So always use a "proper" charger off the 240V if possible.

Checking the 12v output is the first time ive ever used a 12v output off a genny in 20 years of using them for work and m/hs.

Always struck me as being a bit unnecessary and i dont know anyone that has ever used the 12v side of things.

Thanks, all.

I've been looking at generator specs., thinking of buying one, and although they all say 'suitable for battery charging', I hadn't been able to find an accurate measurement for the 12V output.

So it looks like the 12V output is a bit crap for battery charging, then.

I will go away and cogitate :Eeek:
