We've noticed some vans seemingly hooking up a Spanish gas cylinder via their external BBQ point. Is this easy / safe ? Any snags to be aware of??

First thought was this cannot be right / safe. But on reflection provided there is a regulator on the cylinder it might work. Could provide a useful fall back for people with fixed cylinders and no where to fill them. Anyone know?
