We have a 3 ring hob-one of the rings lights up ok but goes out in a few secs after you put a pan on it  It will stay alight forever with nothing on it,the other two are fine.
All jets were cleaned at last Hab. service.
Any ideas ?

Mike.

sounds like a badly adjusted thermocouple to me.

the fact that when you put a pan on it goes out leads me to this conclusion as the flame will be in a different place with a pan on than without.

could be as simple as swapping the tops off the rings ( if they are swappable ) as the gas holes may be in slightly different places thus the flame missing the thermocouple.

Strange but it sounds as if it is being starved of oxygen, how much clearance is there between pan and gas ring.

If you held the pan up slightly would it still happen.

Seriously though has one of you done Lynda's trick and pulled the thermo couple out of position with the dish cloth?

Compare it with the other two

Bingo ::bigsmile: However it happened the gap was larger on that ring, gentle pressure with handle of knife seems to have sorted it.:thumb:
Thx Alan, and a Merry Xmas to you and Lynda.
