Bloody sat nav directed me up a steep hill with hairpin bend
Didn't make it wheels spinning as corner had bad camber on road
When tried to reverse to try it again wheels slipped on gravel and hit barrier. Ouch!
Ended up blocking road.
Thanks to assistance of wife and friendly farmer managed to maneuver out situation and reverse back down hill

Damage as per photos

Managed to cover in tape just need to find someone able to repair now
Anyone recommend a repair company in or near West Yorkshire?

I was warned to exaggerate our vehicle characteristics on ours, as at 3.5T (I was told) it treats you as a car. Not had any problems since

I too have a Garmin Nuvi 2699, I bought it because my old (now much missed) Tom Tom was so out of date for Spanish cities I kept getting lost.
On two occasions Garmin caused me to 'bottom' my tail end, once close to Benidorm when it led me to a bridge under a main road suitable only for cars, with feeder ramps too steep to reverse up... "Crunch!" then in Uzerch it took me up a hairpin road I did not need to visit, that was too steep for the back of my...."Crunch!"
Sat navs can get expensive.
You have my sympathy. Repairs cost ÂŁ400

Tbf and in defence of the Garmin, I use mine for car, Moho and truck ( 44 tonnes) and only time I had an issue with any Garmin was because of the address. Yes, it wanted to take me up a very steep hairpin bend tiny Road in Wales. However, that was to customers home address not delivery point. Guy who should have met me called in sick. I decided I want to see what's up that road before I took my wagon up so I walked up and decided, no way I'm going up there and was about to abort delivery when a guy appeared and directed me to the delivery area 2 miles away. Sat nav was accurate but address was incorrect. Sat navs are superb but always but always use your own judgement prior to taking route especially if looks dodgy

How does a sat nav make people do anything. Surely the drivers experience, vision, perception and common sense should take priority over a sat nav.

In our M/H, the missus takes priority over the twatnav, I come a close 3rd, and if the first two are wrong, I am still at fault for lacking common sense or just being plain f...ing stupid (according to mood)

Your not wrong just maybe a bit harsh on the thread of @Jagtazman. Unless the road looks totally unsuitable at the outset, once on it you don't know what's round the next bend. Particularly going uphill, it is difficult to abandon and do a u- turn. I've been there and I am sure not alone.

Is your van front wheel drive ?
Sorry about your damage.
Yes FWD tbh didn't look too bad when got there until one of wheels lifted due to camber and it spun to a stop half way around the bend could not move forwards so had to go back.
Daft thing is I check sat nav routes and when I set off it was taking me a different way just didn't notice the changes I course. My own fault really

That should be the case for us, but it has been known that I go " don't do what satnav says, don't do it , no don't follow it, I don't like the look of it" and he goes, "but I'm indicating now". And turns anyway!

The problem is that the sat nav can only program against what it knows about any road restriction in terms of height length or weight. It cannot know that any particular corner or situation is unsuitable for a front wheel drive 7.5m Motorhome.
I had a similar situation in montlucon lorry route on a steep road approaching right hand turn with a set of traffic lights. I had to stop lights turned green I tried to pull away and turn at the same time - no traction. Had to reverse and take the lights at speed. If I was rear wheel drive it would have been no problem.
You cannot expect a sat nav to route you around every hazard you may meet. It is only a guide.

That is a brilliant summing up. I'd rather have the sat nav than the old maps any day. Over the years, work and pleasure, the Garmin sat navs have saved me time, money and stress.

We've all been there. Got to the destination. Taken a turn looking for a particular spot to park up, having arrived at dusk and starting to panic.

That turn off to the quaint harbour, tiny streets and then some berk has left his car parked at the narrowest part, leaving you and 20 other vehicles stuck behind you. No chance of reversing out, no chance of getting through

At that point panic sets in. The sweat forms on your brow. The M/H grows in width before your very eyes, as the available passage shrinks. When in the UK, people start sounding their horns, shouting and revving up. In Portugal, you just grab a Sagres out of the fridge, stand outside the van shrugging your shoulders whilst swigging it back and everyone else shrugs back at you. Eventually a manky dog stretches and walks across the road to the café where the offending driver has been enjoying his late "abatinado" ("Americano" to Starbucks fans) and brandy, looks at you with a weary eye, brushes off a couple of flies and, wait for it, shrugs apologetically. Everyone laughs at his dog, nobody has spoken, he ambles towards his clapped out banger and moves it to the next café

And when you get to the quiet harbour, it is full of Dutch campervans, diarrhoea laden seagulls and a noisy bar. At 3 am in the morning you are able to sleep, then the flaming fishing boats start up. So you reach for the twatnav, and the cycle begins again...

Rule 1: Never blame your co-pilot, navigator and better half
Rule 2: Never blame the twatnav, it cost you too much money
Rule 3: Always shoulder the blame, you didn't listen, you ignored the twatnav, you drank too many Sagres last night, you're too fat, stupid or lazy. But never blame 1 or 2 above
Rule 4: If you are looking for sympathy, you'll find it on the sat nav: 51.464247, 0.228589
Rule 5: Don't stop and wonder how many 5 star holidays you could have had if you hadn't spent all this money on a plastic box stuck on the back of a small lorry, it will make you cry

But good old Garmin, its got me everywhere I needed, whether flying, boating or in the M/H

Sorry to hear your tale, but looking on Google Streetview, as you turn off the B6270 there is a sign which says "bends, 25%, unsuitable for coaches, HGV". The severity of the first bend seems to be visible. That would have been sufficient to make me ask questions. I accept that there is no other direct route to Tan Hill: go to Thwaite, Reeth and add 19 miles to a 4.5m trip (n).

However, a gallon of fuel and an extra 45min would have been a better choice: hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Arguably, you could have been travelling back along that road in the dark with a few mm of alcohol in your blood and things might then have been much worse: always look on the bright side of life - Gordon

Twice I fell into the satnav trap both times with the RV , once in France very narrow no through road , dyke either side, took ages turning on a small building plot, and the second in a very narrow estate road outside Seville, thought I would need craning out
I take far more care now

this is from his thread
Not many people get to see under the skin as repairs are usually consigned to dealerships behind closed doors.
So as I have panel damage going back over two years I'd been keeping an eye out for the part I needed without paying Rapido prices and UK concessionaire mark ups.
Picture here of a longstanding wound.
image-L.jpg

Replacement corner found for ÂŁ200 with some haggling
image-L.jpg

So the first job to enable removal is to take off the lower centre section.
All panels are held in place with "mushrooms" a trade term?
image-L.jpg

Sometimes they will pull out but to avoid damaging the flexible centre section I used a saw from below to relieve the 5 fixings

image-X2.jpg

image-L.jpg

image-X2.jpg

image-X2.jpg

Then after removing all screws and disconnecting the wiring harness you can pull off the corner section

image-X2.jpg

image-X2.jpg

image-X2.jpg

Lighting wiring harness transferred to new panel and new mushrooms fitted

image-X2.jpg

New corner panel in place, this is quite fiddly and a point where one is likely to think I wish I'd left it to a specialist

image-X2.jpg

Centre section brought home for a serious clean up and service of the number plate lights

I have recently had some bodywork repaired at Autotec in Keighley if that helps. I hit a tree and put a hole in the corner of the roof. Adam in the body shop repaired the hole and repainted it all for the grand total of ÂŁ120:00 pounds. The owner of Autotec is a friend of mine but the body shop man didn't know this. So I think I didn't get it done any cheaper than anyone else would. All done in one day.

We no longer use expensive Sat Navs
BUT a tip from my HGV son may help you all when programming go for an easy route as opposed to Fast/shortest and exaggerate your vehicle size by 10%
Ours is either an Xgody 7 inch or will be our newly fitted car radio/GPS/MP3-5 player

and the route difference is surprising when you say you are 5.5tonne not 4.25tonne and yet just as short or fast as other routes

Ive been there and done that with a car on the back on porlock hill in the winter :eek::eek: I missed the turning it was not my fault I was the driver I blamed the navigator ( Lynne is not here ) so its ok to blame her :D2:D.

I always check my route on the map after that day I told Lynne she was lucky we only got away with it due to my advanced driving skills ;) :D2

I still have nightmares about it
