Not sure if this has been mentioned before but have just down loaded the newish Garmin All Europe City Navigator NTU 2014.3 to both our device (nuvi 2595) (2 1/4 hours) and our desktop computer (9 1/2 hours). This is an update for us but it loads the complete map system as a separate entity onto the computer although appears to overwrite the map system on the device.
The big deal is when pre-writing maps using the desktop via the Garmin BaseCamp program it has added several new vehicle calculation types, including RV's.
We have 3 pre-written routes from central France to the UK always in our device and on our computer, so I just changed the vehicle from car to RV and checked a route (which we know well) and saw it had altered the route at certain points that I know are 3.5t restricted. It also added 2 hours from C France to Calais. So without actually trying it there appears to be a good understanding of the vehicle type.
This wasn't available a year or so ago when we bought this Garmin, it has come with the map updating.
Our nuvi 2595 is a standard gps device, it's not the truck or motothome version so therefore will only route on the computer for truck and RV, but it's not a lot of work to pre write a route with waypoints to copy the RV shown route, this can then be transferred to the device.
Or, just write the route as usual (for a car) but check how much longer it would take travelling in a motorhome with the small number of deviations required.
Hope this helps others
