in Honour of the 26...mainly the blokes as its shopping hell time in Gib

The Charge of the retired Brigade

Half a league, half a league,
      Half a league onward,
All on the Rock of Gibraltar,
      Strode the twenty six.
    'Forward, the Retired Brigade!
Charge for the shops' he said:
    Onto the Rock of Gibraltar
      Strode the twenty six.

    'Forward, the Retired Brigade!'
    Was there a man dismay'd?
    Not tho' the funsters knew
      Some one had blunder'd:
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
    Onto the Rock of Gibraltar
      Strode the Twenty Six.

    Booze to right of them,
    ciggies to left of them,
    Nicknacks in front of them
      Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with discounts and tat,
    Boldly they strode and well,
Into the jaws of Marks and Sparks ,
Into the mouth of Shopping Hell
      Rode the six hundred.

    Flash'd all their wallets bare,
Flash'd as they turned in air
    Paying the shopkeepers there,
    Charging on visa while
      All the world wonder'd:
    Plunged in the battery-smoke
    Right thro' the line they broke;
    Mango and Peacocks
    Reel'd from the wallet-stroke
    Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
    twenty six.

    Booze to right of them,
    ciggies to left of them,
    Nicknacks in front of them
      Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with discounts and tat
    While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Gib,
Back from the mouth of Shopping Hell,
All that was left of them,
      Left of six hundred.

    When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
      All the world wonder'd.
    Honour the charge they made!
    Honour the Retired Brigade,
      Noble Twenty Six!

Thanks Tonka for making all the travel arrangements. In and out like clock work - what a team of Funsters. Even the customs people waved at us.

used to love going there in RN...but then we didnt have to stayd :)

Turn up, have a few too many beers, get chips and whole roast chicken from taties then fall in the fountain in the main square and then bimble back to the ship...then do it again the next day:BigGrin:
And the real reason...overseas pay started after Gib:thumb:

Went there for a week in 2003...not impressed...all the old haunts were still there though...donkeys flipflop, the traf, mad monk, Charlies etc and swordfish steak in the copacabanas was still nice, but it was one big tourist gift shop! and lacked that certain "atmosphere"
