Don't have many technical brain cells but looking at the Fuji S1730 in Argos catalogue page 489 as a replacement camera as it has a viewfinder (I find this better for me)
Any advice pse?

Just bought the S1500 at ASDA last week for £97.00, cheapest price, good camera, easy to use, and it has a viewfinder. Same price on-line as in the shop.

Hi
I have an older s5600
nice and easy to use, but I would say the only downside can be the viewfinder.
It is an Electronic viewfinder (not SLR), which on mine is a Tiny lcd screen,
The quality is not very good, so most of the time I use the large lcd screen on the back

i have a fuji sf2000similar to the sf1500
it has a viewfinder but in reality it is a lcd screen
viwed through a spy hole and not a true viewfinder
i find it usefull in bright light but to be honest
i would prefer a true stand alone none electronic viewfinder
it makes distant images easier to find and capture point and shoot
this is the one thing i miss about my old fuji 550

view my pics in the funster 365 project see link

Sorry a bit slow in spotting your post, have you considered a used digital slr?
Some really good models are now appearing on the second hand market, that well known auction site can be useful but quite a few high street shops also sell used models.
You can probably guess that I use slr's and would now never consider anything else.

I have a old S602Z Fuji and a Nikon P100 but the problem I find is that when a photo opportunity appears they are not with me as they are not pocketable. The tiny compact cameras are pretty good but all seemed just to have an LCD screen on the back, which are pretty useless in sunlight.
I have just bought a Canon Ixus 95 15 which has all the usual stuff, is smaller than a fag packet and weighs a mere 70g and has an optical viewfinder as well as the ubiquitous lcd screen. It travels everywhere in my pocket.

The camera has one great function, the panoramic mode. It stitches the pictures in the camera instead of fiddling about at the computer when you get home.

i used to have a fuji camera that looked a bit like a SLR, but without the main feature of interchangeable lenses.

it too had the lcd screen in the viewfinder thingy, and i really didnt like it, it's a very very low resolution screen, and is useless in low light,

i wanted to take some photo's of the moon years ago when it was red, couldent see it at all through the electronic viewfinder, had to point and guess.

i've now for a cannon 350D DSLR, which has the proper optical viewfinder, a million times better, the lcd screen cant be used to frame a shot, it's only for showing the photos taken due to the slr's mirror blocking the sensor, but that's fine with me,
and if i wanted i could get an accessory screen that fits onto the viewfinder to give a live view on the screen, and also add things like motion detection picture taking.

but i love the versatility of an slr camera, but it's not for everyone, and at times i do find it a pain being to bulky and wish i had a little flat point and shoot.
