I`m planning a few jobs before the Spring and one is replacing the fuel filter.
I believe it`s the older "spin on" type which I understand are straight forward to replace and not prone to leaking as the more recent ones were.
I can`t see it as it`s hidden behind the air filter housing but I had a feel around and got a photo of it and the electrical connection at the bottom seems not to be connected !
There are no warning lights on dash and no indication of anything amiss.
So the question is what does this connection do and should I connect the replacement which has tails with connector on so slightly different to that fitted now
Oh, it`s a 2003 2.8 JTD
TIA

The connection is to a float device within the filter used to determine whether any water has settled there. It will light the'Water in fuel' warning on the dash if it detects any.

I found it easier to access the Fuel Filter by removing the Air Filter Housing completely.
When replacing the Air Filter Housing I discarded my three perished rubber mounting base attachments and just used new nuts/bolts which lowers the Housing, enabling easier future changing of the air Filter.
I think that loosening of the two Fuel Filter bulkhead mounting bolts helps the removal/replacement of the cartridge.
