For that to be effective it would have to blow up from the bottom rather than suck out from the top. Not a good idea imho

Ermm?? Assuming you fitted this at the top vent, i.e. to extract the hot air why would you want to cool it as well?

Joke, yeh??

it was a joke as then you would need a cooler for your cooler
andy cant see the diference between top and bottom either way the air flows the same weather your pushing it or pulling it

What a weird piece of kit. It's a Peltier heat pump, those small fins get very cold and the heat sucked out is blown at right angles by the two big fans. There is a tiny fan that can blow cold air off the small fins.

How on earth would you use it. I suspect it's a cooler for some obsolete specialised piece of equipment being sold off.

People are using them to make their own beer coolers etc.

You put it on the back of an insulated box with the fan blowing along the bottom of the cans. The large fans on the outside get rid of the heat very effectively.

Lots of people are making these themselves using old PC coolers etc and they cost a lot more than this. It is an absolute bargain. I was considering making my own fridge for the van with a couple of these but decided to go compressor instead.

The normal installation of fan at the top creates a negative pressure so if the fridge is not properly sealed from the habitation the worst that can happen is it will suck air out of the hab
If you install the fan at the bottom as would be necessary for your cooled air to serve any purpose, this creates a positive pressure and could push fumes into the habitation as well as out of the top vent

i doubt you could build up any meaninfull pressure with a computer fan and a foot square vent at the top

For what it's worth, I believe the official Dometic fridge fans fit the bottom vent and suck air in.

Most common installation shows the fan in the top vent and Dometic strongly emphasise the need to ensure the rear of the fridge is fully sealed from the habitation. British vans especially are piss poor in that department.

Got a link?
No. It's what I was told by their representative on a show stand and I had no reason to disbelieve them.
Another reason may be that the lower vent is common to different venting arrangements, some of which are through the roof (not referring to the price).

Having looked at what's available from Dometic on the web, it seems that the fan should be placed mid way up the back of the fridge, between evaporator and condenser. Neither the top nor the bottom (and not what I had understood from the person who claimed to be an authority on the subject).

I spoke to the Dometic fridge expert at the NEC show and he advised that a fan should be fittted horizontally, below the fins near the top of the fridge (i.e. between one third and halfway down from the top). He explained that the unit they sell comes with a supporting cage that should be screwed to the back of the fridge. That makes it a 'fridge-out' job and I decided not to bother. He suggested taking off the vent grilles in very hot weather where this was feasible, as that would have a noticeable effect.

With the way this unit is cooling down why not leave the fridge switched off and just put this inside the fridge instead

It does not make that much difference really.
So long as you are drawing sufficient air away from the vanes, it will work fine.

I design and build build and design refrigeration systems, have done for 30 years. So catching on!

Isn't that gadget what is in a 12v portable cooler box, or similar?

I wired a computer cooling fan to my solar controller's spare terminals then mounted it inside the top fridge vent on our old MH. It made a difference in some circumstances, but not all the time.
