Used in lots of Portuguese dishes, Coentro, not as pungent as the varieties in the UK but readily available.

I would not be surprised if it was the Portuguese that introduced it to Indian sub continent along with chilli's

I think you are right, it is a herb from southern Europe, North Africa and South West Asia according to Google. From here it was exported to North America and probably India - if it didn't make its way there overland.

If it any help it freezes pretty well, I wash chop and bag it before we go, same for chillies and ginger. If you are worried about it thawing on the ferry take it fresh and freeze when you get there.
