No doubt some Funsters are starting to think about holidays in France next year, and wondering where to go. The likelihood of enjoying sunny weather may be a significant factor in the decision.

The link below - to a map of France - illustrates the average annual hours of sunshine across the country during the thirty years from 1981-2010. The contours are at 100-hour intervals:

Obviously the record is historic and only an 'average', but hopefully might be of passing interest.

Interesting that the area around the mouth of the Gironde appears to have significantly more sun than the south-west coast towards the Spanish border.

I knew it, I knew it we now get at least 10 times as much sunshine now since we moved from Todmorden

The other charts make interesting reading too. Nice little "micro climates" to head for during winter travels :)
