Are you by any chance over 3.0m high at any point, which is probably the reason you are paying Class 3 at automatic tolls, heights are also measured automatically. Pay manually and hope the toll collector does`nt notice that third axle.

If you are over 3M I have a solution.

Follow me through Rouen at rush hour and we will go under a tunnel together which has a 2.3m (i think) height barrier.

The height warning smashed my front skylight but we made it under the bridge. Did it 3 weeks ago on the way to Spain.

Didn't worry about the cost of tolls after that:Blush:

The only round the problem is if you have a tag lift axle as fitted to some HGV/Coaches. Normally the right side of the french tolls is for class 4 ie, Trucks etc.
When I was driving Coaches/Trucks i would go through a manned toll booth and lift my tag axle if they tried to charge the higher rate i would point to the wheel being off the ground Simples!

Not sure that motorhomes have lift axle.

Think yourself lucky, tag axles should be class 4 not 3.

No! not lucky. If your vehicle has the ability to lift an axle and by doing so turns your 3 axle Coach/Truck into 2 axle even just going through a toll. then your charged at that class ie, 2 axles.
