We've used our tag for some time in both cars and vans. Our current van has a large overcab which can prevent the tag working. We have moved tge tag to the Base of the windscreen and it now works fine.
The 30kmh lanes... it's not exactly the last second. You get quite a big run up and you will get plenty of chance to stop if there's a problem. The time saved not queuing at tolls is well worth it. I know some will say take the slow routes and avoid the tolls.. but that doesn't suit us all for a variety of reasons.

Because I had a US RV of large proportions I went with http://servitir.com/en/european-transport-services-vat-fuel-tolls-cmr-ferry.html
They specialise in tags for commercial vehicles all over Europe. I transferred my tag to the Flair as it is 3.5 metres with the Oyster. I get a discount on the toll rates, up to 50%. Also my tag covers, France, Spain & Portugal, I did have an extra for Italy but let that go. There is a monthly peanuts charge for the tag, they bill me in sterling and DD. They have a UK office, worth exploring if you travel a lot in Europe, are over 3 metres and use motorways. There that gets rid of 90% interest in one sentence.
