Currently using Antivir becoming a popular free antivirus, which is less intrusive than others Link Removed

If you do decide to change your AV make sure you use the norton removal tool to remove all its componants Link Removed

Interesting, would love to get rid of Norton pre installed on my laptop with 90 days use. Never used it because it had run out before I even started using lap top. Keeps popping up as a reminder to subscribe so just put up with it. I have no product key as never subscribed. Can I still remove it?

Yep run the norton removal tool and it will remove everything to do with any norton product. Which is a good thing as norton is such a resource hog. You'd be surprised how much even the norton uninstaller (and I use that term lighty) leaves behind.

If Norton came with your machine when you bought it and you haven't installed it you do not need the Norton removal tool because it only appears on your machine as an icon. All you need do is go to add/remove programmes and delete it.

I have recently done this and installed free Comodo which unlike AVG comes with a firewall.

AVG and Avast are both good solutions.

If you are also behind a NAT router then the Windows Firewall is more than enough to keep you safe.

AVG (AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista) is good and it is free for an anti virus and for a fire wall use Zone alarm which is also free. if you want to pay Kaspersky is good and it is only £12.00 from Novatech. You need to get rid of Norton though as it will cause a conflict or at the very least make sure it is switched off.
Hope this helps
John

Network address Translation Eileen.

Geeky stuff.

Routers have a Net facing IP address and a local address.

Routes incoming traffic to the local address.

NAT By itself is not an end-all security solution.
