Eight years but ten years tugging in an earlier life
My quote is about £175 cheaper than Safeguard. Add back some breakdown cover (also from Frank Pickles) and I'll still be better of by c.£100.
Thanks for the tip.

Thanks so much for posting this Shiftzzzz

We had our renewal quote at £478 from adrian flux so having seen your posting gave Barry a call at Frank Pickles

They have knocked over £250 off the adrian flux quote.

We are so pleased.

Many thanks xxxxxxxxxxxxx

tried a quote on line but no deal as M/H is valued at £38k but they don't insure over £30k on line. will call them on landline to see what the premium is!

max engine size 3 litre:cry:

One one policy they have max engine size of 3k (mine's 3.5) BUT they tell me they have another, that covers larger. But then I fell at the next hurdle on that - the max length is 18 foot (mine's 23).

As a rough indication, out of the quotes we've had so far:

Adrian Flux - £580 with breakdown cover / £470 without
Comfort £290 with an additional set fee of £57.50 breakdown cover for Europe / UK (not just the EU, all Europe)
Insurance Choice: (via Chaucer) £260 - but apparently no breakdown cover in Europe as vehicle slightly too old
Insurance Factory (via Chaucer) £314 / with breakdown £420 (not too old for this policy..)

Whilst renewing my insurance I ask each broker what they took fro the fee and was left gob smacked. On average they were taking 35% of the quote.

Yanks can be a nightmare

max engine size 3 litre:cry:

I thought this year I would have a punt about trying to insure my Winnebago Aspect..23'9" and £35k ... being a yank was bad enough, but the 6.8 V10 had them climbing the walls. Stayed with safeguard due to the European cover and what you get being over 3,500lbs.. (I am 5.5 tons) The Camping and Caravanning club came in cheapest and Adrian Flux the worst. Sureteam never returned two calls to them. So paid a bit more but stayed put.

It is all in the reading of the policy... boring I know, but being a retired lawyer you do that sort of thing (I know get a life) but it is amazing what you get or do not get for your money.

Brokers make money off the backs of the customer either by commission from the insurance company or from us the customer. Worth asking what there cut is. - have to tell you if asked.

Watch out for continious payment if you pay by debit card.. you have to prove you have not agreed to it or have told them not to do so before renewal....

Did our insurance with Frank Pickles today (via Barry -great guy)
£300 cheaper than Saga.
Could have been another £150 less but we wanted more than 90 days European cover-we now have 186 days in any one yr.
Until I talked to Barry I hadn't realised that if an Insurance company says '90 days European cover' they mean in any one year and not per trip

Only just bought it!
i'd like to add my thanks here
I signed up to the forums here yesterday, basking in the warm glow of having bought our 1st Motor home. As I was reading bits & pieces on here, I heard a curse from the kitchen as the OH received an insurance quote for £1200 :Eeek: Admittedly OH has had couple of minor accidents in past 3 years, but even so, he was all for not buying it if the insurance was that much.

A quick search on here brought me to this post...

The Frank Pickles quote? £290. That's almost £1000 difference :whatthe:

Thank you so much, I can see this is going to be a useful & friendly forum.

So grateful
