We're planning a couple of weeks away further south in France from mid November. We're starting and finishing in Brittany. I know we could reach Spain if we wanted but I'll leave that until early next year when we don't have the same time constraints. Just looking for a pleasant site to base ourselves in for 2 weeks so if anyone has any recommendations we'd be delighted to hear them. At the moment we're thinking of heading towards the coast neat Cannes.

Thanks for both of the above suggestions. We do like aires and we wild camp, but generally only for overnight stops whilst traveling. For this trip we'd like to base ourselves somewhere on a site for a couple of weeks and set ourselves up with awning, table and chairs outside etc and not be too worried about leaving the van during the day.

You need an ACSI book and membership. This will give you discounte prices and also list sites which are still open in November.
Thanks. We do have acsi books for 2016. Just ploughing through which sites are open in November, but a personal recommendation is always good to have.

Hi,
there is a lovely site open all year in a village called Obterre, the site is Le cormier. Its not as far south as you indicated but is in an area with lots to see and beautiful forests around. Its British owned and the hosts are really helpful and friendly.
We stayed there from October to the end of January last year. We originally were heading for Spain but enjoyed it there and stayed put. The weather was pretty good too, even cooked outside on Christmas day.
This year we will be going there around 23rd November for a week or so then heading to Valencia(first trip to Spain).
cheers,
Ed

We were there last Saturday (22-Oct) it was packed. BTW the price is now EUR 8.20. The entry system has been updated now instead of a card you get a printout with a 6 character code. It was causing absolute chaos on Sunday morning as it was refusing to accept any codes. Eventually a guy came from the harbour office to deliver the work around. It seems that a pause of just two seconds between key presses, say to look down at your slip, causes it to reject the entry. So you have to remember your code and then enter it without a pause.

I don't think we'll be doing much sunbathing, but it would be good if it's a bit drier and warmer than a UK November.

Lovely here today in sub tropical Derbyshire,,,best Sept and Oct for a while,,,hardly any rain and sunshine. Beautiful sunset tonight. Hope it dries up for you,,,BUSBY,,

We are now in Central Brittany. A 3 hour drive down to Plymouth yesterday evening and we spent the night in the waiting lanes for the ferry accompanied by another 3 motorhomes and a caravan. A trouble-free crossing and just under 2 hours drive and we are at our second home. Weather was warm, dry and sunny before the sun went down. We have a few days work to do here before setting off southwards.

Left Brittany about midday yesterday in light rain showers. The new mud and snow tyres paid off as we got off the slightly muddy and sloping drive without slipping and sliding as I have been doing. Crossed the Loire over the bridge at St Nazaire which was a bit daunting as the road climbs into the sky. Weather soon cleared to be bright and sunny but rather cold. We spent the night on a well appointed aire in La Bernerie en Retz in the Loire Atlantique in the company of another 5 motorhomes, all French. Despite being out of season there is still life in the village with a few bars and restaurants open. Today we continue towards the Millau bridge and eventually Cannes.

Meandering through the back roads of France isn't very quick. We are now in a village called Lizant somewhere between Niort and Limoges. There is no sign of life in the village but they have a lovely aire. Fully lit, toilet block, electric, water, waste disposal and all for 2 euros a night. I've no idea how we are supposed to pay though unless someone comes to collect in the morning.

Hey you are about one hour from the Munchies at Parc Verger and a further five minute drive to us, both good brewing up shops if you get near
Thanks for the suggestion although today we are carrying on southwards. I really must look up Parc Verger for future reference as I keep hearing good things about it.

All alone in the peaceful aire at Lizant. A lady came to collect our contribution of 2 euros this morning. It felt like were robbing her.

That looks nice and sunny, can you keep hold of it, we will be on the 17:50 train today, stopping at Wissant overnight then a slow toll free meander to Brittany. It would be nice to drive in the sun, it's tipping it down in Kent!

We were hoping to cross the Millau bridge today but it was getting dark as we approached Rodez so a quick check of camper contact found us a free aire just outside the town. It's a quiet location surrounded by a park and woodland. There is room (officially) for 6 vans and we were the 5th to arrive. All 6 spaces are now taken but I'm sure if anyone else arrives they would find somewhere to park up. No electric this time but water is free.

It was a bit drizzly crossing the bridge but well worth the diversion to the visitor centre before we crossed. We are now parked up on the quayside in Arles. According to my camper contact download it's supposed to be an aire but it looks like its useage has been changed to parking for tourist buses. Anyway there are no buses here at the moment and we are in the middle of half a dozen other motorhomes so here's hoping they turn a blind eye to it out of season.
