We have a eurotunnel crossing booked for this Saturday, it's just dawned on me that this could be the infamous weekend from hell traffic wise in France or is it the following weekend? We are heading down to la palmyre area, route already planned avoiding Rouen as suggested elsewhere on forum.

First two weeks in August are the ones to avoid, we are currently working our way towards Calais for our ferry on the 1st of August.
Have been surprised how empty the campsites are, even in the south of France.
Bad weather seems to have had an effect on bookings, high winds and thunder storms for the last week and very changeable.
Currently in the municipal campsite in ISSOIRE, great campsite and very clean and they even have a happy hour in the bar!

I've been here since a week Sunday been down West as far as la Rochelle then followed coast back up to mont St Michael then cut across to bayeux today ...have found the roads fairly quiet but have to say the french drivers are nuts and the lack of road signs is a little frustrating at times ...found a few lovely wild camping spots at quiberon and at Le conquet both right on the beach , temperature hit 35.5° at Le conquet yesterday :) ...visiting omaha and gold beach tommorrow at a lovely little campsite at magny - en - Bessin tonight 12€ with electric

Follow this link which is the bison fute french traffic management and calendar. As usual august 1st weekend is black listed as demanding

Broken Link Removed

We made the mistake once and spent 10 hours south of Paris stationary, from 5 am in the morning. children watched the entire lord of the rings.

Stupidly repeated another year, but realised just in time so changed crossing and went before midnight and avoided Paris completely - the real bottle neck. The service areas on the auto routes are jammed packed, but again avoid french lunch time and it will be slightly diminished.

Traffic will be very heavy on most of the main routes. Why not stay north of Rouen until Sunday or better Monday (there are loads of worthwhile places in the north too) then the roads will be sort of back to normal

We are crossing at 6 in the evening and will probably stay at le touquet, so may stay there all Sunday and hit the road Monday

Well we are back after a fantastic 2 and a bit weeks, Original plan was to go down to Hossegor area, went down as far as La Palmyre and didn't go any further, Us and the kids loved it spent a few days there then Ile de Oberon for a bit then nice slow cruise home. I have to say it really wasn't busy at all, don't get me wrong there was plenty of people about compared to what France is like normally (Deserted LOL)but certainly not as busy as Newqauy in August LOL. No toll roads used and traffic was great, Even forgot about the Rouen bridge on way home and drove straight through no delays at all. All in all great trip

So has the bridge been repaired then? Last time I heard you couldn't get through with a high vehicle.
