I've just purchased a Hymer on Ford Transit 2.2 chassis and after wading through an enormous wad of paperwork, we noticed at the last service in October it had had a new turbo fitted at great expense, nearly £1800.
The van has only done 26,000 miles since 2009, is this a known fault with the Ford engines ??

Anything else we should know ??

Google Ford Transit Forums, you will get plenty of info there. I know there was a problem with the oil pumps but I think that was on the later models. Have not heard of anyone having a problem with the turbo.

We had a Hobby on a transit 2006 year, and the turbo went at about 27000 miles, don't know if it's a common fault

I wouldn't worry too much.

They've all got some issues, just off the top of my head....

Fiat/Sevel vans with judder/clutch problems
VW/Mercedes with expensive injector repairs/engines going pop.
Vauxhall/Renault/Nissan frequent gearbox problems and other issues
Other than stalling at low speeds (software fix?) I haven't seen/heard too many bad reports of Transits.

I think it's case of regular servicing and hoping for the best !

I've had two 2.2 transits for work vans.

Had done over 300k between them and the only engine fault was an EGR valve on the newest.

Our 2.4 transit based MH is 6 years old and has only needed a reverse light switch and an anti-stall software update since we had it from new.

I wouldn't worry too much.

Only thing you can do is to make sure you let it run down the turbo rpm before you turn off the engine. That stops the turbo running dry on oil whilst still spinning, the other thing is that it can oil up if the breather, sticks out oil owing to overfilling the engine.
