one for you computer techies.

shirls lappy is running IE8 but she only uses AOL 9 for browsing (god knows why !!)

from time to time, usually daily, IE8 tries to open her daughters facebook page even though shes using AOL and hasnt started IE8.
it just repeatedly opens the page rapidly over and over again and it cant be stopped without shutting down the lappy.

cant open windows task manager, cant close AOL, cant access IE8 or any other program come to that.
the only way is to shut down the lappy.

any ideas...apart from ditching AOL as that aint gonna happen.

 Hi pappajohn. Try:-

Control Panel
Internet Options
Programs
Then SEE if IE8 is set as the Defaukt Browser? If so uncheck the tick.

i'll give that a try john but i dont think thats it as it forces on long after she's started AOL.....maybe 8 or 9 hours later.
its as though its been set as a scheduled task.

Try this
From start click on run and type in the window msconfig this will open a window with a lot of tabs one will say startup look at the list and uncheck the programs that you donot want to start be careful not to stop system programs
The next time you start your computer you will see a window open warning that you have run a the msconfig program just tick the box to say dont show this again:thumb:

From a Convert,
I have seen the light, well not quite but have converted to Mac.
It just works, spent many years delving into the innards of Mr Gates systems and finally had enough.
Wont confuse the issue of your problem by voicing an opinion.

download and update the data base then run malwarebytes
choose the free one run full scan delete all it finds
make sure aol9 is the preferred browser
1. On the AOL Browser window, click the Tools menu, and then click Set AOL Browser as Default.
2. Click the OK button.

open IE select tools/internet options/advanced/reset then reset

May also help if daughters ect facebook passwords is changed to be safe

Please also check your security setting in facebook as they have decided to rearrange these and may not be as private as you thought !!
