If that includes a flywheel I think you are doing well but get it done soon as they take ALL of August as holiday

    You won't need a flywheel.

I wonder when they say flywheel do they mean the pressure plate? A 3 piece clutch kit costs around £100 in the UK.

If the flywheel is scored see if you can get it skimmed at a local engineers, I have had this done on many vehicles, provided that the flywheel is not cracked

At the price quoted I would think it's a dual mass clutch and flywheel....VERY expensive

2006 2.8 Ducato is a solid flywheel not DMF. Autodata gives 5+ hours for clutch change and a three piece clutch kit is around £130 upwards depending on brand, if they're quoting main dealer prices the clutch kit could easily be twice that and if you do need a flywheel then add another lump of dosh. I don't know what garage labour rates are like over there but if its a biggish outfit you could easily be looking at the equivalent of £100 an hour or more.

Not sure I'd dual mass or solid flywheel.

    Couple of things ..

If the flywheel is scored it might need machining dead flat. Miss this and the take up on the pedal will not be smooth and/or the new clutch will wear fast.

If it's a dual mass it's a tough call as to whether it needs replacing. If you do you are safe. If you don't and it's near the end of its life the whole lot has to come apart agian to change it. I would just do the lot and be done with it.

Please do not fit a cheap clutch !! Doing that would be a false economy to say the least. My personal recommendation is to use LUK parts. Always replace all thre major components being the pressure plate the driven plate and the thrust bearing often called release bearing.
Ther may be a guide tube inside the bell housing . If there is chane that as well.

Some vehicles have a hydraulic slave cylinder inside the gearbox bell housing. Well worth doing that as well.

I'm not familiar with the specifics of your vehicle but the above is food for thought.

All the best with it !,

@ukbill. Bill, if it's the 2.8 JTD, then it's as @dave newell lvs posted above, and if need be, the job can be done on the floor.

Good luck in not getting ripped off.

    Cheers,

    Jock. :)
